Privacy Policy
Anonymous by design. Even from us.
What we collect
- An email + password (or Google account) so you can sign in.
- Reviews and votes you submit.
- Standard server logs (IP address, user agent) kept for abuse prevention.
- Usage and analytics data: pages viewed, searches run, links clicked, device and browser details, collected with cookies and similar technologies.
What we never store
- Your name on any review.
- A reverse-lookup table that maps a review back to your account.
- Lease photos you upload for verification. They're processed in memory only and discarded after the address check.
How anonymity is enforced
Reviews are stored against a one-way HMAC-SHA256 hash of your account id. The salt required to recompute the hash lives only in our server environment. There is no column anywhere in our database that links a review row back to an email or account. Read the long version on the How it works page.
Who we share with
We may share aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified data, such as rent trends and building-level ratings, with partners, researchers, advertisers, and other third parties, and we may use service providers (analytics, hosting, email, advertising) who process data on our behalf. We never share anything that identifies who wrote a review, because we don't hold that link ourselves.
Cookies and tracking
We use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, measure how the site is used, and support marketing and advertising. This may include third-party analytics and advertising cookies. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings, though parts of the site may stop working.
Your rights
Delete your account anytime to remove your sign-in record. Reviews remain. They're already anonymized at write time and can't be re-linked to you. You can still request a specific review be taken down via the report flow. For any privacy request, email hello@rentreview.us.
